THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA | OPERA ASTERIA

  • St Stephen's London, England, SE21 7HW United Kingdom (map)

Is this all? Is this it all?‘. A violent assault leaves behind a world filled with a crisis of faith both in human behaviour and the laws that govern it. Can there ever truly be justice for what happened?

Opera Asteria presents a new staging of Britten's chamber opera places the drama in a modern courtroom during the prosecution of Tarquinius as Lucretia confronts Tarquinius and calls for justice. The action moves between depictions of the characters memories of what happened and their giving testimony in court in the present.
